Rent Increase Dispute at Gym Ends in Physical Assault

At a gym located in Istanbul's Eyüpsultan Göktürk Merkez Neighborhood, kickboxing instructor Gökhan S. beat pilates instructor Selma Y. during an argument over a rent hike disagreement. The suspect, who was detained following the incident, was released after his statement to the prosecutor's office.
Rent Increase Dispute
An incident occurred due to a rent disagreement at a gym in Istanbul's Eyüpsultan Göktürk Merkez Neighborhood on Tuesday, September 1, around 5:45 PM. Gökhan S., the kickboxing instructor who is the tenant of the gym, wanted to increase the rent of pilates instructor Selma Y., who works under a subleasing arrangement.
Incident Turning into Violence
Selma Y. objected to the demand to raise the rent from 25,000 liras to 40,000 liras, stating that the term had not yet expired and asking for the reason. As the argument escalated, the suspect cursed at the woman and attacked her with kicks, slaps, and punches.
Judicial Process and Release
Following the incident, Gökhan S., who was detained upon complaint, admitted to the crime in his statement and stated that he was remorseful. Judicial proceedings were initiated against the suspect for the crimes of 'intentional injury', 'threat', and 'insult', and he was released after his testimony to the prosecutor.
Victim's Call for Justice
Selma Y., who obtained a medical report for battery and inability to work, reacted to the release of the suspect, called for justice against the victimization she experienced, and stated that she would pursue the legal follow-up of the incident.
