Sports Statement from Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç emphasized that the city has a strong sports infrastructure and is recognized not just for football, but in every branch.
In his statement at the Youth and Sports Investments Evaluation Meeting, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç stated that there are opportunities to do sports in every corner of the city and that they are working to advance the strong sports infrastructure.
Sports Infrastructure and Meeting
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç attended the Youth and Sports Investments Evaluation Meeting to evaluate the city's current sports potential, investments, and efforts for youth. Governor Tahir Şahin, members of parliament, and relevant officials were also present at the meeting.
Deep-Rooted Sports History
Mayor Genç stated that Trabzon should not be remembered solely for football, noting that the city possesses a deep sports culture. Drawing attention to the city's Olympic history, Genç recalled that Süleyman Rıza Kuğu participated in the Paris Olympics in pole vaulting in 1923.
International Organizations
It was emphasized that Trabzon has a strong infrastructure for organizing international sporting events. Important organizations such as the European Summer Games, the European Youth Olympic Festival, and the Gymnasiade have been successfully held in the city in the past.
Local Government Cooperation
Within the scope of the works carried out in partnership with the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, summer sports schools, nature camps, and various marathons are organized. Projects are also being carried out to revitalize branches such as volleyball and basketball.
Support for Clubs and Branches
The Metropolitan Municipality continues its support for amateur, professional, and individual branches, as well as disadvantaged groups. The Amputee Football Team competing in the Super League and the handball team stand out within this scope.
Araklı Wrestling Complex
A new wrestling complex is being built in the Araklı district by the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports with the support of World Champion Selçuk Çebi. Sports facilities continue to be expanded across all districts of Trabzon.
