Security data for the first eight months of 2026 revealed that children in Turkey use YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp the most, while experts warned against online cyber threats and deepfake risks. Meanwhile, the BRSA made new decisions regarding mobile phone loans and credit card minimum payment rates.

Applications Most Used by Children

According to data from security experts for the first eight months of 2026, the mobile applications where children in Turkey spend the most time were determined as YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

According to the examinations, YouTube ranked first with 38.4 percent, followed by Instagram with 16.5 percent and WhatsApp with 13.2 percent.

Popular Digital Game Preferences

Multiplayer games continue to be among the digital resources most visited by children.

While Steam, VALORANT, and Minecraft stood out on computers in Turkey, Brawl Stars, Minecraft, and Super Bear Adventure ranked among the most popular choices on mobile devices.

Online Security and Cyber Threats

Experts point out that children carry the risk of coming into contact with malicious individuals or groups on gaming services and online platforms.

While multiplayer games lay the groundwork for children to contact strangers, online abuse and phishing attacks are among critical risk factors.

Artificial Intelligence and Deepfake Risks

The advancement in generative artificial intelligence technologies poses new challenges regarding the online safety of children.

While the use of deepfake technology for cyberbullying purposes causes concern, shared personal content can be abused to produce fake materials.

BRSA's New Loan Regulations

The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency made a new regulation regarding consumer loans used in mobile phone purchases.

The loan maturity was limited to 12 months for mobile phones priced at 40,000 TL and below, and to 3 months for those priced above 40,000 TL.

Credit Card Minimum Payment Rates

Within the scope of the BRSA decisions, the limit threshold determining the minimum payment rates of credit cards was also re-regulated.

The minimum payment rate on credit cards was determined as 20 percent for those with a limit of 100,000 TL and below, and 40 percent for those above 100,000 TL.
