Technical details revealed that Apple's new smartwatch, the Watch Series 12, features a smaller screen despite its expanding case and bezels.

New Smartwatch Introduced at the Event

Apple presented its new devices to tech enthusiasts at the event held on September 9. Added to the company's smartwatch lineup, the Watch Series 12 model stood out with the advanced features it offers.

Expanding Case and Shrinking Screen

Looking at the device's technical specifications page, it was understood that the smartwatch comes with a smaller screen despite having a wider case and bezel. The screen has shrunk compared to previous models, the Series 10 and Series 11 series.

While the screen of the Apple Watch Series 12 model was announced as 1196 mm, this value was at the 1220 mm level in the Series 11 model. Furthermore, this shrinkage did not translate into a higher pixel count for users, and the pixel resolution was kept the same.

Pixel Resolution and Design Differences

Both the 46 mm and 42 mm size versions of the watch are designed with a wider case and bezel structure. In the 46 mm version, the pixel resolution continues to be offered as 416 x 496.

To ensure this design difference was not immediately noticeable, it was observed that the company preferred dark-colored watch faces and straps during the launch event.

Details Noticed by Users and the Past

This design change was noticed by some social media and Reddit users just before the technical specifications were officially published.

On the other hand, this situation does not go down in records as Apple's first downgrade move. The company had previously used a larger case when introducing the Series 10 model, but kept the screen the same.
