Bodies Brought to Mersin
The bodies of Hüseyin Özdemir and Reyhan Verim, citizens who lost their lives in the disaster, were brought to their hometown Mersin and delivered to the authorities.
Official Statements and Mourning
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced to the public that 8 people lost their lives and 20 people remain missing in the accident. Due to this major disaster, a three-day period of mourning has been declared in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized that close cooperation is being maintained with the TRNC authorities and that all state resources have been mobilized for search, rescue, and support efforts.
Legal Investigation and Arrests
Within the scope of the judicial investigation launched regarding the shipwreck, 9 suspects referred to the court were arrested. Another 5 suspects who were detained were released at the end of the judicial process.
