Ho Chi Minh City Bridges Laboratory-Market Gap with Technology Exchange

Ho Chi Minh City is launching a new technology exchange platform and research center model focused on business needs, aiming to bridge the gap between research laboratories and the market and implement Resolution No. 57.

Business-Oriented New Approach

From technology and data to practical applications, businesses are becoming a critical connection point in bringing research results to the market.

One of the long-standing bottlenecks in science and technology is that research results often fail to find easily applicable spaces. Instead of simply presenting existing technologies as they are, Ho Chi Minh City is rethinking this issue by focusing on business needs as the starting point.

Technology Exchange Platform

The city's technology exchange platform aims to go beyond providing information about technologies, equipment, or experts, closely monitoring the connection process until tangible results are achieved.

According to Nguyen Thi Thu Suong, Head of the Science and Technology Development Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, the new model focuses on four main directions: management based on business needs, integration of transaction support services, digitalization of the entire process along with measuring effectiveness, and prioritizing technologies with high application potential.

Exchange Data and Investments

As of early September 2026, the Exchange features approximately 25,000 technologies and devices, over 1,100 advisory experts, recorded more than 191,000 visits and interactions, and signed around 40 contracts and cooperation agreements with a total value of approximately 31 billion VND.

Additionally, Ho Chi Minh City has selected three organizations to establish international-standard research centers involving four science and technology programs in fields such as microchips, stem cells, and new materials, with a total budget exceeding 200 billion VND.

Future Goals

Action Plan No. 19-KH/TU dated December 9, 2025, aims for the city to have at least 5 research, application, and innovation centers approaching international standards in key areas by 2030.

The plan also aims to transform the city into a high-tech research and application hub for the Southeast Asian region by 2035, and to possess at least 5 research, application, and innovation centers meeting international standards by 2045.
