With the attendance of Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, a memorandum of understanding was signed between TENMAK and Denmark-based Copenhagen Atomics in the fields of innovative nuclear technologies and the use of thorium fuel.

Signing Ceremony and Scope of Cooperation

TENMAK and Copenhagen Atomics signed an official memorandum of understanding to develop R&D capacity in the field of innovative nuclear technologies.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar accompanied the signing ceremony held at the TENMAK Istanbul Cekmece Campus.

Strategic Importance of Thorium Fuel

Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that thorium fuel stands out in Copenhagen Atomics' technology for small modular reactors.

The special importance of thorium was emphasized given its abundant presence in Turkey and its role in reducing external dependency.

Future Projects and Commercialization

During the evaluations, it was stated that this cooperation will evolve into a commercializable product in the upcoming process.

The primary topics of the activities consist of efforts aimed at producing thorium in a quality that can be used in new generation reactors.

Molten Salt Reactors and R&D Activities

Within the scope of the activities, it is targeted to use thorium in Molten Salt Reactors, which are among the new generation nuclear reactor technologies.

Denmark-based Copenhagen Atomics works on 4th generation reactor concepts that enable the use of thorium in the nuclear fuel cycle.
