Obstacles in the Commercialization of Research Results Discussed in Vietnam
At a workshop held within the framework of Vietnam Innovation Day 2026 events, bottlenecks and solutions in the commercialization of research results were addressed.
At the Technology and Innovation Connection Workshop, the difficulties in connecting research results with the market, the critical role of intermediary organizations, and new cooperation models were discussed in detail.
Workshop and Ministry Inspection Results
At the Technology and Innovation Connection Workshop organized within the framework of Vietnam Innovation Day 2026, difficulties in the commercialization processes of research results were discussed. During the event, the results of the Ministry of Science and Technology's recent inspection covering 34 provinces and cities were shared with the public.
Current Status of Projects and Products
According to the Innovation Department report, while more than 750 projects and approximately 730 products have been implemented since 2025, another 280 products are expected to become operational in 2026. However, only 60 projects, corresponding to approximately 7.8 percent, and 11 products, corresponding to 1.5 percent, could be commercialized.
The Gap Between Research and Market
Pham Viet Hong, Deputy Director of the Innovation Department, stated that there is still a gap between research and the market, and expressed that businesses have not yet been placed at the center of the innovation system. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung also drew attention to the problems of limited technology supply and weak corporate participation.
Seven Different Cooperation Model Proposals
Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem proposed a system consisting of seven different cooperation models, such as business-ordered research, joint investments, technology licensing, startup companies, and living labs, in order to introduce technology to the market.
Role of Intermediary Organizations and Value Chain
While Nguyen Van Thanh drew attention to the bridging role of intermediary organizations in technology transfer, Pham Viet Hong emphasized the importance of establishing a strong value chain based on risk and benefit sharing among all stakeholders.
