Thorium-based nuclear technology cooperation between Turkey and Denmark
TENMAK and a Denmark-based company signed a memorandum of understanding to use thorium in innovative nuclear reactor technologies.
TENMAK, affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and Denmark-based Copenhagen Atomics have signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate thorium in innovative nuclear technologies.
Scope of the Memorandum of Understanding
The memorandum of understanding signed between TENMAK and Copenhagen Atomics envisions joint studies for the use of the element thorium in next-generation nuclear technologies.
Domestic Production and R&D Targets
The studies aim to produce thorium compounds using domestic resources and to enable Turkey to reach a supplier position in this field by meeting nuclear fuel standards.
Small Modular Reactors and Thorium
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that thorium fuel stands out in small modular reactor technologies and that foreign dependency on fuel will be prevented in this way.
