At the 16th Dii Desert Energy Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey's potential to become a clean energy hub between Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa was discussed.

Focus Points of the Summit

Hosted by YEO Technology in Istanbul, the 16th Dii Desert Energy Summit brought together leading executives of the energy sector.

Energy security, renewable energy investments, grid infrastructure, battery storage, and green hydrogen were discussed in detail at the event.

Strategic Location and Connections

Speaking at the meeting, Dii Desert Energy CEO Cornelius Matthes stated that Turkey is a critical partner for Europe's energy security.

Drawing attention to hydrogen infrastructure initiatives in Central Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, Matthes conveyed that various energy solutions must be addressed together.

Energy Transition and Security

YEO Technology Chairman and CEO Tolunay Yıldız stated that energy security has now become a national security issue.

Yıldız emphasized that local clean energy production will reduce dependence on imported fuels and that strong connections must be established with neighboring countries.

2035 Solar and Wind Targets

Dii Desert Energy Research Director Chiara Aruffo shared Turkey's target of 120 GW of installed solar and wind power set for the year 2035.

Aruffo conveyed that there is an additional capacity potential of approximately 50 GW above the baseline scenario through storage-based generation and hybrid projects.

Factory Visit and Inspections

The three-day summit program was successfully completed with participants visiting YEO Technology's REAP Battery factory in Tuzla.

Sector representatives examined battery energy storage systems and software solutions firsthand at the facility, which has an annual capacity of 5 GWh.
