Assassination Case and Extradition Process
New steps are being taken regarding the Colombian military veterans who were arrested in connection with the 2021 killing of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse and, after years of waiting, were extradited from the Caribbean nation to Florida.
Legal and Economic Support from the Government
In a statement made via X, the Colombian leader stated that his government would provide economic support to the families of the 17 Colombian suspects expected to stand trial in Florida. He also noted that he had instructed the Colombian ministries of justice and defense to provide legal support to these individuals.
Emphasis on Trial and Responsibility
De la Espriella stated that the innocent cannot pay the price for crimes committed by others, emphasizing that he wants each individual's responsibility to be clarified. The 17 Colombians held in Florida are among 30 people facing assassination-related charges in a US federal court.
