Bursa Chamber of Pharmacists Emphasizes the Role of Pharmacists in the Healthcare System

Bursa Chamber of Pharmacists President Zekeriya Kolat stated in his remarks on the occasion of September 25 World Pharmacists Day that the role and employment of pharmacists in Turkey's healthcare system need to be increased.

Bursa Chamber of Pharmacists President Zekeriya Kolat stated in his message marking September 25 World Pharmacists Day that the role of pharmacists in Turkey's healthcare system should be strengthened. Evaluating current agenda items of the sector, Kolat drew attention to problems regarding pharmacist employment.

Digital Infrastructure and Employment Paradox

Stating that Turkey has a strong digital infrastructure with e-prescription and drug tracking systems, Kolat noted that there are 31,500 pharmacies and nearly 60,000 pharmacists in the country. Kolat emphasized that while the world is searching for pharmacists, Turkey is in a position where pharmacists are searching for jobs.

Increasing Prescription Numbers and Chronic Tracking

Pointing out that chronic illnesses and the need for medication tracking are increasing along with the aging population in the country, Kolat announced that pharmacies filled 508 million prescriptions last year. He noted that pharmacists, who serve as primary healthcare authorities, should be assigned more responsibilities.

Artificial Intelligence and Drug Pricing Decree

Stating that they are not opposed to artificial intelligence and digitalization processes, Kolat expressed that the main causes of drug availability issues are geopolitical problems and the Drug Pricing Decree, which create obstacles in accessing innovative medicines.
