Kalie McCrystal, a 38-year-old athlete from Squamish, British Columbia, Canada, was conducting reconnaissance and training in the region for an ascent and descent speed record attempt on the 14,692-foot Matterhorn located on the Switzerland-Italy border.
Last Seen Location
According to information shared by the Skyrunner World Series, the experienced athlete was last seen on Tuesday after reaching the mountain's summit, while descending near a refuge located at an elevation of approximately 12,500 feet on the Italian side of the mountain on the Switzerland-Italy border.
Status of Search Operations
Helicopter-assisted search and rescue operations were launched in the region to find Kalie McCrystal. However, operations were halted on Friday after teams failed to find any trace or evidence of the athlete despite intensive searches.
