Chinese National Rescued Alive from Tunnel Ten Days After Floods in Nepal
Search and rescue teams in Nepal have rescued a Chinese worker alive from a hydropower tunnel ten days after severe floods trapped him.
Following severe floods in Nepal, search and rescue teams successfully rescued a Chinese citizen alive from a hydropower tunnel ten days after the incident. With this rescue operation, the total number of workers pulled alive from the tunnels has reached three.
Rescue Operation in the Tunnel
According to a statement shared by the Prime Minister's Office of Nepal on social media, search and rescue teams rescued a Chinese citizen alive who had been trapped in a hydropower tunnel.
The Nepali army announced that a joint rescue team extracted the man from the 225-meter tunnel and subjected him to a medical examination.
Total Number of Rescued Workers Increases
With this latest operation, the total number of workers pulled alive from the Trishuli hydropower projects has risen to three.
Previously on Friday, two Nepali workers were rescued alive from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower station.
Missing Workers and the Scale of the Disaster
Authorities reported that approximately 900 workers are missing from 12 hydropower projects across Nepal, with an estimated 500 of them believed to be trapped in tunnels.
According to Nepal's disaster management agency, the flood disaster on August 26, likely caused by a glacial collapse, left at least 1,300 people dead and more than 5,000 still missing.
