At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured as a result of a suicide attack targeting a police checkpoint in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Details of the Attack and Casualties
A violent explosion occurred on Saturday in the city of Dera Ismail Khan, located in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to official statements, at least 11 people lost their lives and 30 people were injured in this incident targeting a roadside police checkpoint.
Explosion Carried Out with a Vehicle Laden with Bombs
According to information shared by police and rescue officials, the attack took place when a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle laden with explosives at the checkpoint.
Immediately after the explosion, the dead and injured were transferred to hospitals, and it was reported that some of the injured are in critical condition.
Group Claiming Responsibility for the Attack
While terrorist incidents in Pakistan have witnessed an increase in recent years, the Tehrik-i Taliban Pakistan organization claimed responsibility for this latest attack.
It is known that armed groups such as Tehrik-i Taliban Pakistan and the Balochistan Liberation Army are behind many of the violent incidents in the country.
Footage Shared on Social Media
In videos and images shared on social media platforms following the attack, dense gray smoke rising toward the sky from the blast zone was clearly visible.
Some footage taken from the scene revealed the severity of the explosion through scattered piles of bricks and rubble.
