When a developer bought the building, Maricarmen was offered the chance to buy the apartment, but the amount was impossible for a retired person.
While the rent for the apartment increased from €500 to €1,650, Maricarmen received a state pension of €1,350.

The landlord company, Urbagestión SL, argued that the contract was invalid and won the legal process in the Supreme Court.
Despite all protests, union efforts, and lawyers' initiatives, the eviction order could not be prevented and was enforced.
