Flu vaccines go on sale in pharmacies: Insured price is 313 lira
The price of flu vaccines, which have started taking their place in pharmacies, has been announced as 312.99 liras for insured individuals.
As flu vaccines have begun arriving at pharmacies, the All Pharmacists Employers' Union announced that the remaining amount after deducting the SSI share from the vaccine's retail price is 312.99 liras for insured individuals.
Vaccine Prices in Pharmacies and SSI Support
As flu vaccines have started reaching pharmacies, according to the statement made by the All Pharmacists Employers' Union, the price of the vaccine has been set at 312.99 liras for insured citizens.
This year, there are two different flu vaccines included in the Social Security Institution's payment coverage. The first of these has arrived at pharmacies, while the second is expected to arrive at the end of September.
Vaccine Costs and Covered Amount
While the retail sales price of the released flu vaccine has been set at 764 liras, the Social Security Institution covers 451.01 liras of this amount.
With this support within the scope of payment, the net difference amount that insured individuals must pay is calculated as 312.99 liras.
Global Effects of the Flu Virus
According to World Health Organization data, flu viruses cause approximately 1 billion people worldwide to fall ill every year.
While 3 to 5 million of these cases turn into serious health problems, 300,000 to 650,000 people lose their lives every year due to flu-related causes.
Who is Recommended to Get Vaccinated
Experts emphasize that the flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over six months of age, and individuals over the age of 65 are especially in the priority group.
Those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, children, and healthcare workers also constitute the priority segments in the risk group.
Risk Groups and Needs in Turkey
While there are more than 9 million 583 thousand citizens over the age of 65 in Turkey, there are approximately 25 million chronic patients.
Experts state that these rates will show an increase in the future, which reveals the country's need for millions of flu vaccines.
Domestic Production and Optimal Timing
The All Pharmacists Employers' Union stated that the state should cooperate with universities and start its own vaccine production as soon as possible.
Union Chairperson Nurten Saydan reminded that the most appropriate period for administering the flu vaccine is October and November.
