A comprehensive joint study by the American Cancer Society and the International Agency for Research on Cancer revealed global cancer diagnosis and death figures for 2024, reporting that the number of cases is expected to increase by 67 percent by 2050 along with the aging of the world's population.

A new research prepared by the American Cancer Society and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, affiliated with the World Health Organization, highlighted the global cancer burden. According to the data, approximately 21 million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2024, and 9.8 million people lost their lives.
2050 Projections
It is estimated that approximately 1 in 5 people worldwide will develop cancer at some point in their lives. With the growth and aging of the population, annual new cancer cases are expected to reach 34 million by 2050.
Most Common Types
Lung cancer ranked first worldwide in both new cases and cancer-related deaths. Breast cancer was recorded as the most common type of cancer among women.
Regional Disparities
The study showed that there are significant differences between regions in cancer survival rates. Inequalities in access to diagnosis and treatment are cited among the main reasons for this situation.
Preventable Risk Factors
It is stated that approximately half of cancer-related deaths can be prevented by reducing modifiable risk factors. Quitting tobacco use and regular physical activity stand out.
