Health Screening for the Elderly in Zeytinburnu by Biruni University
Gathering at Zeytinburnu AKDEM on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, a university team offered comprehensive health checks and information to citizens over the age of 60.
Within the scope of the International Day of Older Persons, academics and students from Biruni University carried out a health screening and information campaign for individuals aged 60 and over in Zeytinburnu.
Event Held in Zeytinburnu
Academics and students from Biruni University conducted health screenings and informative activities for individuals aged 60 and over at an event organized in Zeytinburnu within the scope of the International Day of Older Persons.
During the event held at the Zeytinburnu Municipality Family, Women Support, and Disabled Center (AKDEM), experts from the fields of Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, and Dentistry came together with elderly individuals.
Nutrition and Dietetics Activities
In the activities carried out in the field of nutrition and dietetics, malnutrition and sarcopenia screenings were performed for elderly individuals. Participants were informed about the importance of adequate and balanced nutrition during old age.
While information was provided on healthy eating habits and limiting salt consumption, awareness was raised regarding the loss of muscle mass and muscle strength that may occur with age.
Chronic Disease Checks
At the booth set up in the field of nursing, participants' blood sugar and blood pressure measurements were taken, and individual briefings were provided based on the results.
Attention was drawn to the importance of regular health check-ups in the early detection of chronic diseases, primarily diabetes and hypertension.
Oral and Physical Health Evaluations
In the field of Dentistry, oral and dental health screenings were also performed for elderly individuals, and the importance of regular dental check-ups was conveyed.
Within the scope of the event, evaluation areas were also established regarding the physical conditions of elderly individuals, such as balance and mobility, posture, and hand grip strength.
Main Objective of the Activities
The activities aimed to support the physical, social, and mental well-being of elderly individuals.
Additionally, it was aimed to raise awareness about preventive health services and to encourage active aging.
