Interpol Introduces Silver Notice Tool to Track Criminals' Hidden Assets
Interpol has launched the Silver Notice system to enable its 196 member countries to locate illicit assets such as cash, cryptocurrencies, and real estate.
The International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, has launched a new notification system called Silver Notice to track hidden assets and illegal proceeds stashed by criminals around the world.
Silver Notice System Introduced
Interpol has developed a new tool for its 196 member countries to track and alert one another about criminal proceeds such as cash, cryptocurrencies, luxury vehicles, and real estate.
Aiming to Recover Criminal Proceeds
While it is noted that criminals typically manage to keep 99% of their ill-gotten gains, this new system aims to track and seize a greater amount of assets.
It was reported that 82 countries that tested the new alert system since January 2025 have uncovered at least 36 million euros worth of criminal assets to date.
First Applications Took Place in Italy and Brazil
The first silver notice request circulated to members by Interpol came from Italy, under which the assets of a high-ranking mafia member were investigated.
Brazil responded to the request within a few days, identifying real estate and livestock registered in the name of the criminal and his associates.
General Assembly Approval Awaited
Member countries are expected to approve the full adoption of this tool at the Interpol general assembly meeting to be held in Hong Kong in November.
Following the system known as the red notice, Interpol has introduced a new color-coded alert notification for the first time in the last 20 years.
