The Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled has informed the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation that their men's national team will be unable to participate in the 2026 IWBF World Championships in Ottawa due to delayed visas for four delegation members, including the head coach and assistant coach.

Visa Obstacle Prompted the Decision

According to the information provided by the Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled, while 12 players and four staff members received their visas, visa applications for four delegation members, including the head coach and assistant coach, remained unresolved.

Officials and Federation Managed the Process

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation and the Local Organizing Committee worked in close cooperation with the Iranian Federation regarding the applications, maintaining regular communication with Canadian authorities.

However, it was clarified that visa decisions and processing times fall under the responsibility of the relevant authorities and occur outside the control of the organizers.

Impact on Championship Organization

The international federation stated that while they are aware of the difficulties faced, the withdrawal at this stage affects the organization and integrity of the championship.

It was stated that the primary goal is to successfully execute the tournament and work with partners in affected areas to mitigate negative impacts.

Next Steps and New Schedule

Following this development, it was announced that updated match schedules and detailed information will be shared with the public in due course.

It was reported that the long-term consequences of the withdrawal will be further addressed by the IWBF Executive Council within the framework of relevant rules.
