Istanbul Airport at the Top in Europe and the World
According to the EUROCONTROL report, Istanbul Airport became the busiest airport in Europe during the week of September 7-13, and managed to enter the top five globally.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated EUROCONTROL data, announcing that Istanbul Airport maintains its leadership in Europe and has entered the top 5 airports on a global scale.
Europe's Busiest Airport
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated EUROCONTROL's European Aviation Overview Report dated September 17, 2026. Minister Uraloğlu announced that Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe with a daily average of 1,643 flights between September 7 and 13.
Followers in Europe and the Status of Antalya
Istanbul Airport was followed by Amsterdam with 1,413 daily flights and Paris Charles de Gaulle airports with 1,407 flights. In addition, Antalya Airport ranked among the 10 busiest airports in Europe with a daily average of 969 flights.
Among the Top Five Worldwide
It was noted that flight traffic at Istanbul Airport increased by 3 percent compared to the same period of last year. Ranking 5th globally with a daily average of 829 departures during the September 7-13 period, the airport made its mark among the top 5 busiest airports in the world.
Turkey's Air Traffic Data
Touching upon country-based air traffic data, Uraloğlu reported that Turkey ranked 6th among countries with the busiest traffic volume in Europe with a daily average of 4,191 flights. Daily average flight traffic increased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year.
