Two Italian fighter jets operating under NATO command scrambled urgently during the night and targeted and shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle located in Lithuanian airspace.
Authorities stated that this incident was the first intervention resulting in the shooting down of an unmanned aerial vehicle in the airspace of a Baltic country.
Drone's Drift and Impact Point
The unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed and safely neutralized near the village of Pratkūnai, located approximately 60 miles northwest of the capital Vilnius.
Lithuanian authorities stated that the vehicle may have entered from neighboring Belarus and remained in the country's airspace for about 30 minutes before being shot down.

Lithuanian Air Force Commander Antanas Matutis publicly announced that they assess the captured unmanned aerial vehicle likely carried explosives.
Security units are continuing detailed examinations of the wreckage in order to fully determine the exact origin and purpose of the vehicle.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized in a statement prior to these developments that attacks organized near the alliance's territory are concerning.
Rutte stated that such actions will prompt the 32-member alliance to increase its support for Ukraine and that the Russian leadership is exhibiting a dangerous attitude.
Flare Crisis Between Denmark and Russia
In a separate incident on Tuesday, Denmark reported that a Russian frigate fired flares at a military helicopter routinely patrolling over the Baltic Sea.
Following this provocative development, Danish authorities immediately summoned the Russian ambassador to the ministry to register an official response.
