In late August, the partial collapse of a melting glacier triggered a deadly landslide and flash floods across Tibet and Nepal.

While it has been officially confirmed that more than 1,300 people lost their lives as a result of the disasters, over 5,500 people remain missing.
Call for International Responsibility
Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal invited the world's highest-polluting countries to accept shared responsibility and issued a wake-up call for the global community.
Compensation Request from the UN Fund
Nepal's ministries of finance and environment formally submitted a 20 million dollar request to the UN loss and damage fund, with projections indicating that total damages could exceed 5 billion dollars.

In Nepal, which contributes less than 0.1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the Himalayan region is known to be warming much faster than the global average.
