A massive wave of frozen water, rock, and debris triggered by the collapse of a high-altitude glacier rushed down from the Tibet-Nepal border, sweeping away villages across more than three districts.
Casualty and Missing Persons Information
Search and rescue teams have recovered the bodies of more than 1,100 people so far following the disaster, while approximately 4,500 people remain missing.

Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal stated that in seeking international monetary aid, post-disaster assistance should be treated not as charity, but as a moral responsibility.

With an almost negligible contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, Nepal is bearing the disproportionate consequences of global warming, including rapid glacier melting and extreme mountain disasters.
Applications to International Funds
While Nepal's Ministry of Finance sent an official climate compensation demand letter to its international partners, it also applied to the Loss and Damage Fund board for urgent financial support.
