Details of the Helicopter Crash
Los Angeles Fire Department officials reported that the incident occurred around 7 p.m. local time, with the helicopter crashing into a parking lot between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Avenue.
The intense fire caused by the crash also spread to four surrounding vehicles. Fire crews intervened and brought the flames under control, eventually extinguishing them.
The Previous Bus Crash
In the same area, a fatal bus crash had occurred around 5 p.m. at the Chatsworth intersection, at the junction of West Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue.
It was announced that two people lost their lives and six others were hospitalized in the crash involving an L.A. Metro bus that was struck from the side by a Ford vehicle.
Ongoing Operations
The Los Angeles Times announced to the public that communication was lost with the KNBC-TV crew, which was among multiple news helicopters operating in the area.
Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine how many people were on board the helicopter and whether those who lost their lives were inside it.
