The world's largest oat milk producer has joined an unusual climate journalism campaign

Swedish-based Oatly, the world's largest oat milk producer, has partnered with the global journalism non-profit Covering Climate Now to feature climate change messages on its packaging.

Climate Messages on Milk Cartons

Swedish company Oatly has changed its packaging design to deliver a new message to consumers regarding climate change, adding special campaign phrases to the product cartons.

The 89 Percent Project and Its Purpose

The messages on the cartons are taken from the '89 Percent Project,' launched by the global journalism organization Covering Climate Now, which emphasizes that the vast majority of people around the world demand climate action from their governments.

International Market Rollout

Oatly's newly packaged products were first launched in Sweden and subsequently took their place on shelves in other European countries, including Belgium and Germany.

Coming to US Shelves

Caroline Reid, Oatly's senior sustainability director, stated that these specially designed cartons are expected to appear on grocery store shelves in the United States starting in January.

Initiative Based on Scientific Research

Covering Climate Now launched the '89 Percent Project' last year as a global collaborative journalism initiative, taking its name from a 2024 study published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nature Climate Change.
