Search and Rescue Operations for the Missing
Following the recession of floodwaters, rescue teams are continuing search operations for thousands of people believed to be missing, particularly those trapped inside the tunnels of hydroelectric projects.
International Climate Warning
During his maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Balendra Shah stated that the disaster serves as a warning against mounting climate risks in the Himalayan region, calling for international support and regional cooperation.
Identification and DNA Testing
The disaster management agency announced that 1,453 bodies have been recovered while 5,644 people remain missing. Experts at the Nepal Police Hospital in Kathmandu are assisting with DNA testing and identification efforts.
Multi-Billion Dollar Reconstruction Costs
The government estimates that the reconstruction and recovery process will cost $4.77 billion, while approximately 7,500 homes have been damaged or completely destroyed.
