Puerto Rico's two largest legacy newspapers, El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora, have announced they will end their print publication life and transition completely to a digital format.
Print Publication End Dates
It was reported that the final print issue for Primera Hora will be published on September 24, while for El Nuevo Día that date will be September 27.
Reasons for Digital Transformation
María Luisa Ferré Rangel, publisher of GFR Media, stated that the decision was made in response to changes in consumer habits.
Reduction in Workforce
While no clear information has yet been provided regarding potential layoffs by the company, there has been a noticeable decline in the number of unionized employees in recent years.
