Russia Warns UK and France: CIA Director Allegedly Visited Moscow
Russia has threatened military retaliation after the UK and France agreed to provide missile technology support to Ukraine. Meanwhile, US intelligence assessments suggesting Russia is planning a potential limited attack on NATO countries have increased military activity in the region.
Following the UK's decision to provide Ukraine with secret technology for Storm Shadow missile production, Russia has accused London and Paris of "playing with fire." This development comes amid allegations that CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a secret visit to Moscow to warn the Kremlin against attacking NATO allies.
Technology Sharing and Russia's Reaction
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that Ukraine would be granted access to secret military technology to manufacture its own Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles. After France also agreed to provide similar missile technology support, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused both countries of playing with fire.
In response to this support for Ukraine, Russia implied that it could strike British military targets both inside and outside Ukraine. The UK Ministry of Defence, however, stated that they would continue to stand resolutely with Ukraine against Russian aggression.
CIA Director's Secret Moscow Visit
According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a secret visit to Moscow on Tuesday. The visit reportedly took place following US intelligence assessments that Russia could test NATO with a cyberattack or a limited incursion against a Baltic country.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied the allegations regarding Ratcliffe's visit and Russia's attack plans, arguing that these reports were unrealistic scare scenarios. US President Donald Trump also characterized the meeting as a routine contact, claiming that Russia would not carry out an attack.
Defense Gap in Europe and Poland's Preparations
Amid the ongoing tensions, serious deficiencies in Europe's air defense systems have been reported. It was noted that due to US tensions with Iran, stocks of Patriot missile defense systems in Europe have reached critically low levels, potentially leaving NATO countries vulnerable to a possible Russian attack.
NATO countries bordering Russia, meanwhile, have accelerated their military preparations. Poland announced that it would deploy K2 Black Panther tanks received from South Korea to the border of Russia's Kaliningrad region, while Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated that they are preparing for a potential war.
