Accident Caused by Severe Weather
The ferry named Virgo Transport 8 was affected by adverse weather conditions while sailing from Surabaya to Banjarmasin.
The captain issued a distress call stating that the ship had listed to its side amidst waves reaching up to three meters, and communication with the vessel was lost shortly thereafter.
Details of Search and Rescue Operations
Authorities received information that the vessel had capsized approximately two hours after contact was lost around 02:00 on Sunday.
A large number of personnel from the military, police, and other relevant agencies have been deployed as part of the search and rescue efforts.
Passenger Manifest and Survivors
It was recorded that the ship's official passenger manifest listed a total of 243 people, comprising 213 passengers and 30 crew members.
While initial operations rescued 108 people alive, the lifeless bodies of six individuals have been recovered from the sea so far.
