Federal authorities publicly announced on Wednesday that a potential terrorist attack targeting a large shopping mall in Minnesota had been prevented.
As part of the investigation, 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud was arrested on charges of acquiring firearms to carry out a terrorist act.
Contacts with Undercover Agents
It was stated that the suspect had been monitored by the FBI for about two years and had been corresponding with covert sources since December 2024.
It was reported that Mohamud paid an undercover agent disguised as an ISIS member $600 in a public park on Tuesday to purchase an AK-47 and ammunition.
Change in the Attack Plan
It was stated that after plans to join terrorist organizations abroad failed, the suspect converted this intent into a plan to carry out a domestic attack.
The investigation file included that the suspect stated in messages that he wanted to become a martyr and aimed to carry out an attack with a domestic weapon.

US Attorney Daniel Rosen noted that the suspect posed a danger and that agents prevented a potential massacre before it could be carried out.
