Troy University entered the national best public universities list for the first time in the 2027 rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, securing the 200th spot.

Troy University was listed among the best national public universities for the first time in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report rankings published on Tuesday.
Previously categorized among regional institutions, the university managed to be included in this year's national ranking thanks to its recent developments.
Evaluation Criteria and Ratings
The 2027 edition of the U.S. News Best Colleges rankings evaluated more than 1,700 institutions using 17 different factors to measure academic quality and graduate success.
Entering this more competitive major classification for the first time, Troy University claimed the 200th position among the best public universities nationwide.
Program-Based Achievements
In addition to its overall success in the national rankings, the university also made headlines with its performance in social mobility.
The institution was also awarded various distinctions for its academic programs in Business, Computer Science, and Nursing.

Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. stated that being recognized among the top universities at the national level marks a significant milestone in the institution's history.
Hawkins emphasized that they have achieved many monumental successes by focusing on research and innovation over the past three years, and that this achievement is a testament to the dedication of the faculty and staff.
Path to Becoming a Research Institution
The Alabama Commission on Higher Education approved a role change in 2023 that allowed the university to offer additional doctoral degrees.
This decision was recorded as one of the key steps paving the way for the institution's maturation process as a research university.
Expanding Academic Recognition
Troy University was officially recognized as a Research University and Doctoral University under the Carnegie Classifications in 2025.
The university was also elevated to the highest tier in degree classification by the Commission on Colleges.
Past Awards and Reports
The U.S. News ranking stands among the most recent achievement awards received by the university in international and national arenas.
In August, the institution was named among the best in the South by the Princeton Review for the 22nd consecutive year and was also honored on various platforms.
