In the seventh month of the war between the U.S. and Iran, the Trump administration approved visas for high-ranking Iranian officials to attend the United Nations General Assembly, subject to strict travel and shopping restrictions.
Approval of UN Visas for the Iranian Delegation
The Trump administration announced that it would permit an Iranian delegation to enter the country for the United Nations General Assembly meetings taking place next week. The decision was confirmed in an announcement made by a U.S. State Department spokesperson on Thursday.
Issued in accordance with host country obligations, the visas will allow the core delegation of the Iranian regime to participate in the annual global leaders' gathering in New York City.
Restrictions and Exceptions
Strict rules and bans will be implemented regarding the Iranian delegation coming to New York. In this context, travel restrictions have been imposed, along with a strict ban on purchasing luxury goods.
High-ranking figures granted visas include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who will be part of the delegation.
Visa Ban on the Palestinian Authority
While visas were granted to Iranian officials, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was blocked from attending the United Nations General Assembly.
The prevention of Mahmoud Abbas's participation is being carried out within the framework of ongoing sanctions against the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
