Turkish Universities Ranked First in the World in the Top 500 of the UI GreenMetric 2025 Index
According to the results of the UI GreenMetric 2025 Green University Index, where 1,745 institutions from 105 countries were evaluated, Turkey claimed the top spot globally by placing 54 universities in the top 500.
Carrying out sustainability-focused studies internationally, Turkish higher education institutions achieved significant success in the UI GreenMetric 2025 Green University Index, securing first place in the world within the top 500.
The Country with the Most Universities in Europe
In the ranking where 1,745 higher education institutions from 105 countries were evaluated, Turkey became the country with the highest number of universities on the list in Europe with 139 universities. With this result, Turkey also managed to place second worldwide.
Six Turkish Universities in the Top 100
6 universities from Turkey made it into the list of the top 100 greenest universities in the world. Istanbul Technical University ranked 25th, while Yıldız Teknik University ranked 48th, managing to enter the top 50.
Turkey at the Summit in the Top 500
In the GreenMetric 2025 evaluation, 54 universities from Turkey entered the top 500 greenest universities in the world. With this number, Turkey became the world leader, while Indonesia ranked second with 51 universities entering the top 500.
Green Campuses Spreading to Anatolia
The geographical distribution of the successful universities spanned seven regions. Higher education institutions from many different cities, ranging from Edirne to Ağrı and Gaziantep, alongside Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, managed to enter the list.
Evaluation by YÖK President Özvar
Higher Education Council President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar emphasized that Turkish universities are at the forefront of global competition not only in academic production but also in sustainability and green transformation.
