Teams led by the Nepal Army spent days using excavators to clear tons of debris blocking the tunnel. During the operation, where car-sized boulders were blasted to clear paths, clean air was continuously pumped into the tunnel to keep the workers alive.
The Workers' Struggle for Survival
It was understood that as floodwaters engulfed the tunnel, Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan escaped drowning by taking shelter in air pockets at the upper sections of the tunnel. The two workers waged a struggle for survival for 10 days without light and under extremely difficult conditions.

Tunnel rescue expert Arnold Dix, coordinating the operation from Sydney, described the extraction of the two workers alive as an extraordinary situation. It was reported that approximately 150 workers, along with those at other power plants in the region, are missing and search operations are ongoing.
