UN Experts Allege US War Crimes in Iran Strikes
A new report states that civilians were targeted in airstrikes against Iran, providing strong grounds that the US committed war crimes.
A recent report prepared by United Nations experts stated that there are reasonable grounds to believe the US committed war crimes in two fatal strikes carried out on the first day of the war by the US and Israel against Iran.
Scope of the Report and Investigated Incidents
In a new report presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council, independent experts detailed their examination of the two deadliest attacks against civilians during the conflict.
School Struck in Minab
In attacks carried out on February 28th, Tomahawk missiles targeted an elementary school in southern Minab, and according to local authorities, more than 150 people, including numerous children, lost their lives.
Investigative experts reported that there was no evidence the school was used for military purposes and that survivors stated the school was struck twice.
Residential Area Targeted in Lamerd
In a separate attack on the same day targeting a sports complex and a residential area in the town of Lamerd, at least 21 civilians, including children, lost their lives.
Statements from Officials and the Department of Defense
While experts noted that the gathered evidence shows the damage in the attacks was not a side effect or an accidental strike, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth argued that they would never target civilian objectives.
