UN Mission Alleges War Crimes by US in Iran Strikes

An international investigative mission mandated by United Nations human rights experts has announced the discovery of reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed war crimes in two separate airstrikes carried out in Iran.

Findings of the International Mission

An international fact-finding mission mandated by a United Nations human rights body examined the details of two airstrikes in Iran. The statement indicated that reasonable evidence was obtained showing the United States launched indiscriminate attacks that led to civilian casualties and injuries.

School Attack in the City of Minab

During the US-Israel clashes that began in February, it was reported that US munitions hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school located in the southern city of Minab. While Iranian state media announced that 168 people, mostly children, lost their lives in the attack, international reports recorded a total of 178 civilian deaths.

Targets in the Lamerd Region

In addition to the school attack in Minab, the UN-backed delegation also examined the airstrike on February 28 targeting a clearly identifiable sports complex and residential area in the city of Lamerd. It was noted that precision-guided missiles scattered tungsten fragments in this attack, resulting in the deaths of 22 civilians.

Positions of the US and Iranian Governments

While the US Central Command denied responsibility for the attack in Lamerd, the Pentagon has not yet shared the findings of the review with the public. The same report emphasized that Iranian state security forces also committed crimes against humanity against their own citizens.
