Speaking outside the White House, US President Donald Trump announced that he turned down the ceasefire and Strait of Hormuz reopening proposal submitted by Iran. Trump stated that Iran was forced to seek this deal due to its difficult situation.
Trump's Rejection of Iran's Proposal
US President Donald Trump stated in remarks to reporters in front of the White House that he rejected the ceasefire and negotiation proposal conveyed by Iran.
Trump argued that Iranian officials want to make a deal immediately and open the strait because they are in a very bad situation.
Iran's Ceasefire and Strait Plan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated in an interview with CBS News that the proposal in question was prepared in coordination with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
According to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the plan covers the cessation of all conflicts in the Middle East, including Lebanon.
Terms of the Deal and Status of the Strait
The conditions presented by Iran included the release of frozen assets, the lifting of the oil embargo, and the termination of the US naval blockade.
Provided that the conditions were met, the Strait of Hormuz was envisaged to be reopened to navigation on the seventh day of the ceasefire.
Future Steps of the Parties
It was reported that Donald Trump approached the proposal with reservations and that the US is expected to renew its aerial bombardment campaign.
Iranian officials, on the other hand, stated that they are determined to maintain their current stance until their conditions are met.
