Production Commenced in Kayseri with 15 Thousand Saffron Bulbs in a Closed Area
A producer who started saffron cultivation in a closed area as a result of long research in Kayseri announced that the first harvest will take place this year.
Mustafa Demir, who became interested in saffron production through his research during his university years in Kayseri, started production with 15 thousand saffron bulbs in a closed area due to climate conditions and pests.
The Process of Starting Production
Mustafa Demir, who became interested in saffron production through an article he read during his master's degree period, started working in this field about three years ago after many years of research.
Reason for Transition to Closed Area
He stated that although he obtained yield in his trials in open land, he turned to the closed production model due to negative conditions such as climate crises, frost, excessive temperatures, and precipitation.
He stated that production carried out in a closed environment provides significant advantages in combating soil pests as well as harsh climate conditions.
Production Quantity and Value
It was reported that the production of 15 thousand bulbs in a closed area is equivalent to an open land area of approximately 2,000 square meters, and the price per kilogram of saffron is around 900 thousand TL.
