US Representative Jared Huffman, in his newly penned book, has described Christian nationalism—which is gaining strength in American politics and institutions—as the country's most dangerous political movement, drawing attention to the threat.

The January 6 Attack and Its Religious Dimension

Congressman Jared Huffman stated that the events of January 6, 2021, were not merely an uprising of Donald Trump supporters, but also a Christian coup attempt containing distinct religious elements.

Huffman expressed that this dangerous movement is not being taken seriously enough and that many of his colleagues failed to recognize the religious motifs in the events, prompting him to write a warning book on the subject.

Subgroups of Christian Nationalism

Huffman noted that modern Christian nationalism is not composed of a single structure, but rather consists of three distinct groups: the New Apostolic Reformation, traditionalist Catholics, and Protestant fundamentalists.

He emphasized that these groups have formed a temporary coalition under Trump's leadership and are attempting to establish a dangerous dominance over American politics.

Secret Organization Within Congress

Huffman stated that a tax-exempt ministry-industrial complex operates within the Capitol building, which he described as a shadow theocracy.

He expressed that numerous clerics and lobbyists conduct religious studies targeting lawmakers and cabinet members, attempting to influence federal policies.

Threats to Enlightenment Values

Stating that the ultimate target of Christian nationalism is the Enlightenment values and individual freedoms that have endured since the era of Thomas Jefferson, Huffman conveyed that scientific facts are also in danger.

He stated that statements by certain politicians denying climate science and fundamental scientific facts are pulling the country backward.
