Following more than 270 days at sea, which brought attention to grueling conditions and crew welfare, the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has arrived at the Laem Chabang port in Thailand.
Arrival at the Thai Port
Tight security measures were implemented at the Laem Chabang port, located near Pattaya, south of Bangkok. The crew of 5,000 aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at the port on Wednesday morning.
Extended Deployment Period
The giant nuclear-powered vessel had departed from California in November 2025. After its mission in the South China Sea, the ship was redirected to the Middle East and had remained at sea since the attacks in Iran began six months ago.
Crew Conditions and Controversy
Following months-long maritime duty, living conditions aboard the ship and mental health issues became news stories worldwide. The hardships faced by the crew and suicide attempts have heightened criticisms of military actions in the Middle East.
Security and Preparations in Pattaya
The resort city of Pattaya maximized its security measures to host the sailors and marines. Police Colonel Anek Srathongyoo stated that the sailors would go ashore in groups of about 50 people.
Visit Rules and Departure Date
Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngampiches emphasized that preparations focused on security and fair pricing. While sailors were asked to stay away from water sports and cannabis, they were encouraged to enjoy other tourist attractions until the ship departs from the port on Sunday.
