While the 2026 theme of World Space Week, celebrated between October 4 and 10, was designated as "Rocket Revolution," the International Astronautical Congress, one of the world's largest space gatherings, convened in Turkey for the first time.

During the week declared by the United Nations, this year's focus was on launch technologies that have transformed access to space.
The transition from disposable rockets to reusable boosters and a market where dozens of companies compete was emphasized.
The Meaning of World Space Week
Dennis Stone, President of the World Space Association, stated that the theme highlights increased access to space and falling launch prices invigorating the space ecosystem.
The week is celebrated in commemoration of the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the entry into force of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.
International Astronautical Congress in Antalya
The International Astronautical Congress, one of the world's largest space gatherings, was held in Antalya, Turkey for the first time.
It was organized at the NEST Congress Center under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, jointly hosted by the Turkish Space Agency and SAHA Istanbul.
Future Goals and Economy
At the congress, it was stated that the global space economy has exceeded 600 billion dollars and is expected to approach 1.8 trillion dollars by 2035.
It was announced that Turkey aims to reach the Moon by firing its national hybrid rocket engine in 2027.
