Artificial intelligence and robotic surgery technologies in urology discussed at IURES 2026 Congress
At the IURES 2026 Congress held in Didim, Aydın, experts evaluated the future of technologies such as artificial intelligence, fifth-generation robotic systems, digital twins, and telesurgery in urological surgery.
Technological advancements shaping the future of urological surgery were discussed at the IURES 2026 Congress, organized by the International Urological Research Society (IURES) in the Didim district of Aydın.
Congress President Prof. Dr. Burak Turna stated that fifth-generation robotic surgery platforms enhance surgical precision through advanced imaging, haptic feedback, and artificial intelligence integration. IURES Second President Prof. Dr. Emre Huri emphasized that 3D printing, digital twin, and virtual reality technologies are transforming surgery from an art of 'prediction' into a science of 'millimetric calculation.' Huri noted that during the digital twin creation process, DICOM files are parsed pixel by pixel using specialized engineering software.
Prof. Dr. Murat Binbay drew attention to the potential of telesurgery to provide a surgical experience independent of geographical distance, while emphasizing the importance of data security and legal infrastructure for the widespread adoption of this technology. Binbay also predicted that robotic systems will be strengthened in the future by assistant mechanisms that recognize anatomical structures and can be guided by voice commands. IURES President Prof. Dr. Fatih Atuğ stated that the foundation of success in robotic surgery lies in the surgeon's experience and correct patient selection. Atuğ noted that multiparametric prostate MRI does not contain radiation and reduces the rates of unnecessary biopsies.
Methods such as focal treatments for prostate cancer, multiparametric prostate MRI, and MR-ultrasound fusion biopsy were also discussed in detail at the congress.
