Following the flood disaster in Istanbul, CHP Vice Chairman Responsible for Health Policies Ali Rıza Erbay called on the Ministry of Health, stating that measurable preparations must be made before disasters, public health must be protected, and a transparent administration must be demonstrated.
CHP Vice Chairman Ali Rıza Erbay drew attention to the importance of health services following the heavy rainfall and flood disaster in Istanbul. Erbay stated that their expectation from the Ministry of Health is not merely to make statements after a disaster, but to make measurable preparations before disasters and protect public health.
Pointing out that the contamination of floodwaters with sewage, wastewater, and chemicals carries serious risks of epidemics and poisoning, Erbay emphasized that the provision of safe drinking water, the prevention of infectious diseases, and the guarantee of access to treatment for vulnerable groups such as dialysis patients, the elderly, and the disabled must be secured. Demanding responses from official authorities regarding the monitoring of drinking water analyses and the continuity of emergency health services, Erbay noted that institutions must also share their shortcomings and corrective steps with the public.
