Stroke and Palpitation Warning from Prof. Dr. Özlem Altıntaş Kadırhan
Prof. Dr. Özlem Altıntaş Kadırhan from Kırklareli University stated on the occasion of World Stroke Day that palpitation attacks and early intervention are of vital importance in stroke cases.
Prof. Dr. Özlem Altıntaş Kadırhan, a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at Kırklareli University Faculty of Medicine, emphasized in a statement made on the occasion of World Stroke Day that careful attention should be paid to palpitation attacks observed in stroke cases. Stating that stroke, which occurs with the sudden blockage or bleeding of brain vessels, is among the most important causes of death and permanent disability in the world, Kadırhan expressed that speech disorders, weakness in the arm and leg, facial drooping, sudden loss of vision, double vision, and balance and walking disorders are among the primary symptoms.
Prof. Dr. Kadırhan stated that when symptoms appear, a healthcare institution should be consulted without losing time, noting that patients should not wait for their complaints to pass and that patient relatives should call 112 to urgently apply to the nearest healthcare institution. Pointing out that relatives should not let the patient sleep, feed them, or wait for the condition to resolve on its own, the expert reported that individuals whose complaints suddenly disappear may have experienced a 'transient ischemic attack' and this condition could be a precursor to a permanent stroke in the subsequent process.
Stating that high blood pressure is the highest risk factor in stroke, Kadırhan noted that palpitation attacks are important for the elderly in the condition, which can also be seen in young people. The expert stated that heart rhythm disorders can trigger clot formation and the blockage of brain vessels; diabetes, high cholesterol, cholesterol, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle are also among the risk factors. Stating that treatments aimed at protecting brain tissue that could otherwise die can be applied today with early intervention, Kadırhan emphasized that when complaints are experienced, people should not say 'it will happen and pass' and the treatment process should not be delayed.
