The Fed's decision to keep interest rates steady at the 3.75%-4 level was made with a 10-2 vote. Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack were the members who voted against the decision. Following the vote, the S&P 500 index experienced slight volatility, while chip stocks and artificial intelligence infrastructure companies welcomed the decision. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF recorded a 1.7% increase.
Artificial intelligence infrastructure companies are sensitive to interest rates because they undertake heavy borrowing for new data center investments. CoreWeave, a leading neocloud stock, gained 5.6% during the regular session. On the other hand, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh stated that future rate hikes are probable, describing his stance as hawkish.
