A new public opinion poll reveals that concerns in the US regarding the environmental damage caused by artificial intelligence have increased significantly compared to last year.
A new poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago shows that Americans' concerns regarding the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence have climbed compared to last year.
Poll Results and Increase Rates
The survey conducted in partnership with The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago has been completed.
According to the obtained data, approximately 53 percent of Americans are extremely or very concerned about the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence.
Distribution of Concern by Political Affiliation
It is clearly seen in the poll data that Democrats are the main group behind this increase in concern over the environmental impact of artificial intelligence.
While approximately two-thirds of Democrats express high concern, this rate stands at around half for independents and about 40 percent for Republicans.
Data Centers and Demands for Limitations
Concerns regarding electricity consumption and water usage also directly affect the public's approach to the construction of new data centers.
Approximately six in ten Americans argue that the number of new data centers should be limited due to concerns over energy and resource consumption.
Citizens' Views and Evaluations
Eriech Tapia, a 30-year-old Republican from Arlington, Virginia, drew attention to the value of data centers in terms of computing power.
Tapia also voiced his concerns regarding the electricity usage of these facilities, emphasizing the importance of the issue.
