Bill Gates and the Gates Foundation warned that artificial intelligence could increase global inequalities if necessary steps are not taken. The foundation announced that it will allocate $1 billion in resources over two years to increase access to artificial intelligence tools in health, education, and agriculture.
Artificial Intelligence and Inequality Warning
Bill Gates urged technology companies and world leaders to take urgent action to prevent artificial intelligence from deepening inequalities. The Microsoft co-founder made this call in the annual Goalkeepers report, which monitors United Nations development goals.
Two-Year $1 Billion Resource
The funding, announced on Tuesday, will be channeled over the next two years into efforts focused on health, education, agriculture, and model training in local languages. Foundation CEO Mark Suzman stated that they will continue to work with the U.S. administration despite cuts in international aid.
Sectoral Distribution and Local Languages
Approximately $100 million of the allocated funds will be used to create datasets in local languages spoken by disadvantaged communities. Alongside these projects, which will be carried out in partnership with organizations such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google.org, and Microsoft, $400 million each has been allocated for education and health.
