OpenAI projected to bring in $20bn less in revenue than expected

OpenAI, a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, has informed its investors that its projected revenue expectation for this year has fallen 20 billion dollars short of the previously stated figure, reaching 50 billion dollars.

Revenue Notification Made to Investors

OpenAI communicated to its investors that its revenues for this year will reach the 50 billion dollar level, based on sales up to the end of September.

This figure fell significantly short of the 70 billion dollar expectation the company had stated in information presented to investors last month.

Details of Measurement Discrepancies in Markets

It was stated that the resulting 20 billion dollar gap stemmed from investors' attempts to directly compare the figures using the measurement method of rival company Anthropic.

While Anthropic includes revenues generated from sales made through cloud partners, OpenAI was not yet applying this method in the same way.

Impact on US Technology Stock Exchanges

While this revision in revenue expectations negatively impacted US tech stocks on Thursday, the Nasdaq index closed the day lower.

Following these developments, declines were also observed in the shares of leading chip and technology giants such as Nvidia, Oracle, and Micron.

IPO and Safety Debates

OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman announced that the company will not carry out an initial public offering this year due to concerns regarding artificial intelligence safety.

On the other hand, risks regarding the unregulated development of artificial intelligence systems have increased calls from politicians for the introduction of new rules.
